Special Activities

Fun Run and Road Race

On the morning of the picnic we will have a fun run for kids 12 and under and a road race open to everyone. The fun run will be on the ball field and start at 9:00 AM sharp with the road race to follow immediately. The road race will be a 2 to 3 mile run through the Knolls, starting and ending on the ball field. Awards will be given out by age group.

Golf Cart Decorating Contest and Parade

A new event will be a golf cart decorating contest. The theme is the "Roaring 20's" in honor of the Knolls being established 80 years ago in 1929. You can decorate your golf cart any way you want as long as it relates to the 1920's. It could be a movie, an event, a person or whatever from the 1920's.

For example some possibilities are: Jazz, Lindbergh's flight, Amelia Earhart, prohibition, gangsters, Babe Ruth, flappers, G-Men, silent movies, Charlie Chaplin, Rudolph Valentino, talkies, The Jazz Singer, Ford Model A, Zeppelins, stock market crash, food (Yoo-hoo, Wonder Bread and Velveeta were all introduced in the 1920's), The Great Gatsby, radio, Knute Rockne, Jack Dempsey, etc. Have fun and be creative.

The entrants will assemble at North Beach at about 11 AM. At 11:15 AM they will parade SLOWLY down Lake Shore North past the ball field where the judges will be and go down Lake Shore South, up Ridgeway and back around Meadoway.

Judging will be based on four criteria:
Parade Theme – How well the design adapts to the parade theme (Up to 40 points)
Originality – The creativeness and originality of the concept (Up to 15 points)
Workmanship – Detail in design and creation of the concept (Up to 15 points)
General Effect in Presentation – Overall presentation of the float (Up to 15 points)

Maximum points would be 85

There will be trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

Golf Chipping

The golf chipping contest will be a little more competitive this year. It will cost $5 to enter with the winner taking home all the money. For $5 you will get 5 balls to try to chip into the hole about 30 yards away. Points are awarded for getting close. If you don’t do too well you can buy a second chance for $10. In 3 years, no one has ever gotten it in the hole.

Outdoor Movie

MeatballsAfter dinner and after the clean-up, when it gets dark (8:30ish) join us for a movie on the ball field. We will set up a big screen and pop some popcorn. The movie will be Meatballs, the classic summer camp movie with Bill Murray. This movie is rated PG-13.
