Marie Eleanor Parrotta Minervini, was born on May 5, 1927 in Yonkers, New York, and died on November 27th, 2021. The daughter of Charles Michael Parrotta and Josephine Eleanor (Daniele) Parrotta and the sister of Charlene Joan Parrotta Dahl. She attended Yonkers public schools, received a Bachelor of Science degree from James Madison University and a Master of Arts degree from Columbia Teachers College. She was happily married Dr. George August Minervini for 45 years.

The the couple both deeply loved Candlewood Lake and my father’s family was one of the first families on the lake in the early 1930’s. Candlewood Knolls was an important focal point their lives. During the summer, for over 20 years, Mom was a swim counselor at the Knolls, together with Willis Caterson and Kate O’Connell.  Many of us ‘Midgets’, will never forget the mantra “Blow bubbles, blow bubbles, blow bubbles - BREATH. As my first coach she gave me and many others the gift of the love of water and swimming.

The jewel in Marie’s career in education was teaching Physical Education for 35 years at Lincoln High School in Yonkers NY.  There she rose to become one of the first women to Head a HS Physical Education department in our city.  She was and still is beloved and respected by her students.

Her outstanding drive, willingness to serve and generosity of spirit inspired her to volunteer service including being a trustee and president of  the Yonkers Public Library, a trustee of the Women's Institute of Yonkers, a chairperson of the Auxiliary of the Yonkers General Hospital, the Hudson River Museum and long standing member and supporter of the Alpha Delta Kappa sorority.

When widowed 1996, Marie moved to Miami Beach Florida where she spent many happy years swimming, knitting, golfing and traveling before being stricken by a debilitating illness.

Marie Minervini is survived by her daughter Lucia Maria, her children George Brian Minervini and Denis Peter Minervini and her grandchildren Lucia Sadlier Minervini, Damian Minervini and Virginio Minervini.
