| A hearty welcome is extended to Mrs. Marie
Cerrow of Hollis, L. I., and Mr. and Mrs. John W. Roberts of Mt. Vernon,
who are the latest newcomers to the community. Mrs. Cerrow has purchased
the Exhibit Lodge and the Roberts family have purchased the former
Daragan cottage on the Old Town Road. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Collins who
are members of the year-round colony at the Knolls, are the proud
parents of a baby girl born at the Danbury Hospital on May 31.
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gulliver at the Danbury Hospital
on May 30. The colony is growing through multiplication as well as
addition.
The Candlewood Knolls Grounds and Garden Committee has started
landscaping the brook bed next to the Clubhouse. The committee consists
of Mrs. Linda Bolan, Chairman, J. Hack, Gustav Wraae, Mrs. Florence
Hutchinson and the Misses Adele and Edith Reinschmidt.
The Knolls clubhouse has been recently renovated and put in apple-pie
order for the summer season.
Jack Murphy, son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Murphy is home from his
studies at Holy Cross College for the summer vacation.
Coach Bob Clifford has returned from his post as a Physical Education
instructor at Sugar City, Colorado, to take up his duties as councilor
at the Knolls club.
Phillip Schwartz, son of Dr. and Mrs. P. A. Schwartz has returned
home from his studies at Oberlin College for a short stay before leaving
for Maine where he will act as councilor in a summer camp.
Mr. Gerard Conroy has recently purchased a fine plot adjacent to his
present holdings.
A new cottage for Mrs. Carrie Moody of Danbury is about to be built
on the Lake Road in the Lodge section.
Miss Helen Gumbs has completed her course and received her diploma at
Beaver College where she majored in Interior Decorating. Miss Gumbs is
also well known for her skill with a rifle having won second place in
the National Women's Championship, and as Captain of the Beaver College
Rifle Squad.
The Gate Lodge at the entrance to the Knolls have been transformed by
a striking change in color scheme. It now beckons a more cheery welcome
to visitors.
Knolls residents will be pleased to learn that Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
Harder and family, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Livingston, and the Albert Pike's
will be with us again this season.
Mr. and Mrs. August Bisson of New York have recently moved into their
newly completed summer home.
The Candlewood Knolls Soft Ball Team will play its first game of the
season with the Newtown Country Club team at Newtown on June 23, and it
is expected that the swimming season will be officially opened on July 4
by a meet between the Carmel Country Club and the Candlewood Knolls
Aquatic Club.
It has been announced that Miss Barbara Furbush of Danbury will be
the bride of "Ty" Loewe, Jr. The young couple will make their home at
Mr. Loewe's charming home "Hy Rocks" overlooking the Knolls.
Mrs. J. F. Smith of New York has purchased a three acre plot on Route
39, opposite the Knolls where she plans to build a year round home.
Plans are being prepared for summer homes for Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Fischer, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kovacs and Mr. Stanley Kluska. |
