| Mr. and Mrs. John C. Bolte of Mt. Vernon
have been at the Waterman Cottage for July, and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer
Steinmetz of Peekskill have been guests at the Kenny lodge for the same
period. Mrs. William Hoerle and family of Ridgefield have been
vacationing at the Strickler place on Lake Drive, and Mrs. Florence
Wheelock of Stamford has been occupying the Prior cabin. Mr. Paul E.
Courtois and family have the Thomas Reardon cottage for the season.
Mrs. Katherine Burnell of New York City has purchased a large log
cabin site on Lake Drive and is planning to build a summer home next
season.
Miss Regina Burke, Superintendent of Schools has added a further
sixty foot plot to her holdings on Crest Way which adjoins those of her
brother, Chief Harold Burke of the New York City Fire Department.
Mr. and Mrs. John W. Major of White Plains, N. Y., have purchased
additional plottage for the setting of their new log lodge.
Mr. and Mrs. James Garcia of Astoria, have purchased a double plot on
Lake Drive and are planning to build this fall.
On the 10th, the Softball team from Candlewood Isle visited the
Knolls. The score: 17 to 2 in the Knolls' favor. Ray Smith, Jr. pitched
for the isle, and Bob Clifford for the Knolls. It was a little early in
the season to judge of the abilities of the two teams. The Isle will
undoubtedly turn the tables on their home field.
The Candlewood Knolls players presented two dramatic sketches on the
evening of July 16th to an audience of over 300 enthusiastic supporters.
The "Farmer's Daughter," with extraordinary natural scenic effects and
excellent talent, was continuously applauded. Leading parts were taken
by the Misses Marjorie Vanderbilt, Marjorie Ashmead, Marian Witt and
Mrs. John O'Connell and the Messrs. Bill Crum, John O'Connell and N.
LaFar.
The scream of the evening was the old stand-by: "Curse You Jack
Dalton," in which all the female parts were played by men-folks,
including M. Sullivan, G. Liebler, W. Stripling, G. Jardynzski, L.
Liebler, A. Witt and Tom Riordon. |
