| Mr. and Mrs. Frank B. Sullivan of Yonkers
have bought the Heuer cottage. They are building a new garage and are
adding other improvements which will place their cottage up among the
leaders at the Knolls in comfort and beauty. On the recommendation of
the Sullivans, their friends, Mr. and Mrs. George Hoover of Yonkers,
have purchased on of the new Colonial cottages on old town road with an
exceptional view of the lake. Harold Jenks' waterfront cottage has
been purchased by Mildred A. Gibson of New York City. This place has
long been known to residents as the one having the stone lighthouse on
the large boulder near the water's edge.
Cabins have been in great demand and following are some who will
spend the summer at the Knolls in places they have taken for the season:
Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Berry of Rye, Mrs. M. B. Reiser and Mrs. J. F. Lee of
New York City, Elsa Ebling of Brookline, Mass., R. N. Harder, Thos. A.
Brogan and George Muller of Yonkers, Russell Hogan of Stamford, Henry
Suchre of New York City and Frederick A. Zender of Jamaica, L.I.
The Fourth of July holiday will be observed in a big way at the
Knolls. On Saturday night, July 3, a big dance will be held and on
Sunday there will be water sports. On Monday baseball will be the
attraction.
Miss Virginia Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Wright Brown, of
Yonkers, was the weekend guest on June 12th of Miss Marjorie Vanderbilt.
The new shuffle board courts at the clubhouse have proved to be the
most popular game ever inaugurated at the Knolls. Every night crowds of
members are there enjoying the game. Another innovation at the Clubhouse
is a Wurtzlinger music box. After the games many stay to dance.
Fred Weber, of Pelham, who has a fine home at the Knolls, believes in
enjoying all the comforts of home while sailing. Fred lies off in an
easy chair with pillows at his back and his feet in the air. His wife
and daughter Jean generally ship with him.
The New Fairfield Congregational Church will hold its daily Vacation
Church School for two weeks beginning July 12th. Several members of the
Knolls took advantage of this last year.
Mrs. Wallace Odell entertained the members of the Ladies Aid Society
of Asbury M.E. Church of Tarrytown at her cabin on the lake front on
Tuesday, June 8. Nearly 35 attended and they had a wonderful day. Boat
rides at the Clubhouse followed a business session.
The ball field has been put into excellent condition. Nearly fifty
loads of fill have been placed in the outfield and a new backstop has
been built. The club hopes to have a good soft ball team this summer and
will play games with other team around the lake. The first big ball game
will be played on Monday morning, July 5, when the single men tackle the
married men.
One of the most attractive places at the Knolls is that of Frank
Vanderbilt, of Yonkers. Mr. Vanderbilt who is a Trust officer in the
Fifth Avenue Bank has a corner plot and it looks like a rose garden. He
and his family are fond of flowers and they are working on the grounds
all the time. |
